Besides a few tax benefits, there is basically nothing substantive being denied homosexuals by not having the government recognize a same sex union in the same manner as a traditional one. This is all about convincing people to change their moral outlook. No group Cathy supports wants to prevent two men from having a relationship. No group Cathy supports wants to jail you for loving another man. No group Cathy supports wants to prevent you from having a public ceremony in front of friends and family affirming a life-long monogamous commitment. No group Cathy supports wants to take your biological children away from you if you do any of the above. All Cathy wants is to able to say "no, that's wrong and I will not be forced to say it's not". And that, in the end, is what this entire debate is all about. Your side does not like that. You WANT those who oppose your quest to morally equivocate same sex unions with traditional marriage to shut up and accept what you want them to accept. Forgive me if I don't go all in with your fascist conformity crusade. /soapbox That being said, I support SSM. It doesn't bother me. I am not bound by religious teachings. If SSM legalization were put on the ballot in NY, I would vote for it and urge others to do the same. But that's where you and I part. I accept that others will say "sorry, but no". |
