Belief is God in some form is hardwired into most people's brains and for people who lack the intelligence to analyze the universe critically God does provide some fufilling answers to some deep questions. Nevermind that it's an illusion, but it is seemingly sensible one. A grown person would find it hard to defend belief in th Easter Bunny.
