I'm not one of them. These walking texters stepped out in traffic when traffic was approaching without looking in any direction for oncoming vehicles and blocked the middle of the road bike lane. They were generally oblivious to verbal warnings and bell ringing to alert them to the imminent risk of an accident. In addition, on designated multi-use paths, these people are not paying attention for bicyclists wishing to pass on the left and because they aren't able to focus on staying to the right side of the path, prevent passing or create other dangerous situations.A ban on texting while walking might be extreme, but people need to pay more attention to their surroundings, both for their own safety and so as to not miss out on other things taking place around them. |
