Maybe you should be watching out for people texting and trying to avoid them. This is a blanket ban that doesn't take into account the possibility that this activity can be performed safely. You mentioned that walking texters annoyed you while riding your bike. Well, a lot of bike riders are douchebags and dangerous when riding on sidewalks, the wrong way on one way streets, running red lights and so forth.* Maybe we should ban bike riding overall, regardless of the fact that it can be done safely and responsibly. I would actually enjoy such a ban as a hater of all the new bike lanes that Cycling Commissioner Sadik-Khan put up in NYC.

*Note that all of these activities are already illegal. I wonder how exactly pedestrians bothered you while riding your bike. Were they actually jaywalking? If so, what does such a ban achieve exactly? Maybe they should enforce jaywalking laws.
