Are you old enough to remember Jimmy Carter? That was exactly the feeling in the U.S. People even discussed what was the best way to "manage" America's decline. Then we had Reagan, whose most significant accomplishment was to answer the question of whether America was in decline with "No," and make it believable.

Now we have Carter II. I hope the next President can at least channel that part of Reagan's personality.
