Or maybe Southern Italians and Sicilians do look distinct from Northern Italians, the former more resembling North Africans more. Often, indeed, Mediterraneans are mistaken for Hispanics or North Africans: Look at this guy: He was billed in the WWE as Muhammad Hassan, a Middle Easterner. But he's actually Mark Copani, an Italian: Southern Europeans, while definitely genetically distinct from North Africans, do have many physical similarities and probably diverged more recently than did Northern Europeans from the latter group. |
