Long Post: Diesel, Alternative Fuels and Kitchen Sink |
|
Posted by tracksionmotor on Mon Dec 5 22:04:56 2005, in response to Re: IS GEORGE BUSH THE WORST PRESIDENT -- EVER, posted by BIE on Mon Dec 5 20:32:04 2005. I use K1/D1/D2/H1/H2/LPG/gasoline tri-mix 97 0ctane. Road untaxed fuel is dyed red big time and some who use kero space heaters have become ill from the dye content...mix untaxed fuel with diesel and road police snag your ass with PINK fuel in your tank. Used to be you got about 42 gallons of gasoline or 21 gallons of diesel. I know my fuels....one nasty winter up near Blairstown....driveway was frozen over and Agway made no deliveries so I carried DI every weekend in my company car totalling about 500 gallons....one five gallon poly container broke open in my back seat!Ultra low sulfer fuel is not yet readily available hear in NY metro. You cannot use a catalyctic converter with a coal or oil burner....ULS is pretty clean and has a high BTU output and does cost more. I've been into alternative fuels for nearly thirty years building a passive solar house with a multifuel furnace and don't pay 'Waste Management' for garbage pick-up. Fuel substitution is a time expensive slightly money saving hobby. Sure, you can go down to the local Chinese to cut a free deal for used cooking oil, buy a filtration plant from advertiser in Mother Earth News and have almost free fuel but diesel engine won't start on straight veggy oil and requires constant maintainance. When your vehicle won't start, how much is a days pay worth? Mom drives a Jeep XJ (Cherokee to you non four-wheelers.) I'm waiting for a diesel/hybrid/4WD to come out. Sister Miriam of the Genisis Farm in Blairstown, NJ, has been pushing subsidised photovoltaic systems. Frelinghuysen School just hooked up. What you get (IF the rebates work) is a PV system with a synchronus invertor that generates power to use or go into the grid....there are no batteries to store electricity...good if you are retired and home all day....bad if you work because it only works during the day and the utility pays wholesale for electricity generated. Next lesson 'Bootleg Juice 101: How to make the electric meter spin backwards.' I will not answer inquiries intended to defraud utilities.' This post is only for educational, informative and entertainment purposes only. Electrical work is to be done only by qualified and licensed proff-fessionals and I am not to be held responsible for mis-application of my suggestions. Electrical work is hazardous in nature and requires knowledge/experience along with common sense and proper personal protection equipment. Seasons Greetings To All, RTT Peter |
