Not really, because we haven't had a President who has not had two naturalized citizen parents in a LONG time.It doesn't matter if it was not in a long time. Federal law has put the natural-born Clause into law and those laws have been upheld when former presidential candidates who really were born abroad ran for the presidency. McCain's case isn't even the best one since he was born in an American Naval hospital in an American enclave. George Romney is the best example. He was born in Mexico, issued a Mexican birth certificate and had several defacto mothers, some who were Mexican. His biological parents (Americans) grew up in Mexico themselves and married there. He still got to run in 1968. Federal law doesn't require both parents to be citizens. It only requires one. In fact it can even be just a grandparent if the kid was born in the 90's or later. |
