To change this benchmark is to go against the 1st Amendment, which is intended (read the Federalist papers) to permit freedom *from* religion as well.

Don't you understand you are preaching to the choir every time you say this stuff? Is there one person here that has said otherwise? Just about everyone participating in this thread, and most others on abortion have even said they were pro-choice.
That doesn't mean that we can't can't have different opinions on when "human life" starts. I am very much against the government getting involved in it, just as I am very much against government involvement in many other things such as the nanny laws, and all the rest of it.

The legal designation does not mean that anyone has to change religious thought, if one is adhering to a religious view of the issue they probably won't seek an abortion to begin with.

Who here has said anything different? I agree with you. Most of the people participating in this thread has said they are pro choice.
But that doesn't mean we aren't allowed to say how we feel about when human life begins.
