When life begins, for the purpose of discussing US abortion law, is the point of fetal viability. To change this benchmark is to go against the 1st Amendment, which is intended (read the Federalist papers) to permit freedom *from* religion as well. That has been established by Roe, and is in concurrence with numerous state laws that preceded the decision. Everyone else will have to live with that. The legal designation does not mean that anyone has to change religious thought, if one is adhering to a religious view of the issue they probably won't seek an abortion to begin with. |
