So let me get this right... if the ruler is an Islamic extremist and they shoot at demonstrators they're evil and must be stopped but if the ruler is an ally its okay for them to shoot at demonstrators.In scenario #2, if the ruler is a non-Islamic despot, he prevents an Islamic extremist from taking over in the first place so that you don't have to have a scenario #1. It's an awkward position for the US but better to have dead Egyptian Islamists and their useful idiots now than dead American civilans in the future and for our national interests to be furthered for a little while longer. |
