Well, I voted for Bush, and I like a lot of the Republicans in our Government (more than certain Democrats), but I have VERY Democratic beliefs. I am pro choice, pro gay marriage, against guns, etc. That's one reason why I want to get out of Texas b/c I'm sick of conservatives in the Bible Belt, and all the closed minded people here. I would like to be around Liberals for a little while!You should ask yourself the question: why do you like these Republicans. Is it because they stand for certain beliefs (honesty, fiscal conservatism, personal responsibility, independence, patriotism, xenophobia), or is it because they are local (i.e. from Texas or from the South at least) so you can identify with them personally? I try not to get too involved in politics, because I think that politicians are all equally corrupt, regardless of what they stand for and how they live their personal lives and what they say they believe in and how they actually make policy. But when given the choice between Bush (Conn.) and Kerry (Mass.), I would vote for Kerry anyday simply because I believe he will bring pork to Massachusetts (and I live here and I benefit personally from the pork.) You sound like you are a socially liberal but fiscally conservative, good, old-fashioned American. I think you will do well in the Northeast. Try to visit Montauk Beach while you are here. It's very romantic. If you're ever in Boston, drop me an email (I'm in a long-term relationship, but I always like to show my city to the people.) AEM7AC |
