I get the overwhelming impression that the GOP led the People down the garden path on HCR. Every time I'm in the Village, I pass by the most eloquent argument in favor of healthcare reform--the empty, cold, dark hulk of the former St. Vincent's Hospital. STVH was one of the largest, most comprehensive medical institutions in the city, and it was done in by precisely the things the Republicans are trying to bring back.If HCR had been in effect in, say, 2008, STVH would still be saving lives today. During the last election season, I heard not a peep from GOP candidates about how repealing HCR would, in fact, keep our precious hospitals and clinics open, or manage Medicare Part D, which will, in the coming years, be the single biggest payor for prescription drugs in America... |
