As the report points out, because permanent members of the Security Council enjoy a veto of recognition, not much changes until Russia supports a new admission, at which point US/UK/France would block the admission that Russia sought unless and until Russia withdrew its opposition to KosovoThe ramifications extend outside the UNSC. Now the Basques, Catalonians, even Sudeten Germans are going to use this as leverage. The World Court just declared that it's legal to separate from a country for any reason. You support Russia, then? Don't be silly. The decision benefits Russia over the South Ossetia/Georgia argument. The sticking point is that Kosovo goes to the EU instead of Pooty-poot's new Russian Empire (read the rest of the thread). |
