Luch, if American Airlines was flying unairworthy aircraft, their entire fleet would be grounded. Neither AA (nor any other airline) wants to fly unsafe equipment. Airlines don't want to skimp or cut corners on maintenance, either...the infamous Aloha Airlines incident in 1988 remimned the industry that high-time aircraft require high maintenance, like any other aging, complex machinery.Accidents occur in all modes of transport. Perhaps I should have avoided NYCT in the late '70s when the Rockwell trucks on R-46s develped cracks that could have led to structural failure and derailment? |
