I know a landlady in Brooklyn that took 10 months to get someone out, lost more than 10 months rent, legal fees, and had to keep the asshole tenant's stuff in storage for an additional month after the marshall came to end the eviction. She either had to keep it in the apartment for that month (losing another months rent, and delay cleaning it up to rerent), or spend the money on a storage unit, and pay someone to move it to the unit for a month. It's ridiculous. In NYC, landlords have no rights at all, it's all geared to the tenant. The fine line is way to the other extreme. |
