Actualy, for most gays and lesbians, it's the other way around. Constant reminders from a very homophobic society that you are "not acceptable" can and will hammer your self-esteem into the ground.

But much of this is exagerrated. For example, I could care less what people want to do with eachother sexually. Who cares?! One of the people I work with is gay, and we are friends. I don't think sexual conversation ever comes up. But he's confident in himself, and doesn't need to march around in a parade to make him more confident.

It's still legal in 29 states to fire or refuse employment to people for the sole reason that you are gay or lesbian. It's legal to evict, or refuse to rent or sell housing to gays or lesbians in 31 states.

And many single heterosexual males have trouble getting apartments too, and are "discriminated" against. Heterosexual males have a stereotype of being "messy, dirty, noisy", etc. Many landlords won't rent to THEM either. In fact, in many locations, it may be easier for a gay male couple to get an apartment than it would be for two heterosexual roomates sharing an apartment to get an apartment, as gay males are usually looked upon as neat and clean, and probably would improve the apartment. You cry persecution complex, but don't realize there's another side to it too.
