Maybe some of that is true but the fact of the matter is very simple and clear. IF the community has gone from white to non-white and it is obvious that the community is in decline, the white children will NOT purchase the homes out of fear of crime or fear of falling real estate values. It is a dam shame and I have to admit that racism plays a role. But many times the racism is based on fear and crime statistics. I knew people that ran out of Canarsie to buy homes with less land and less property but they were in a more "SOLID" community like the South SHore of Staten Island.

Think about this for a minute, why in the world would a white family sell a detached renovated home on a nice tree-lined block in Canarsie and move to a semi-attached smaller home on Staten Island with less land and no garage. WHy would they put up with a toll and longer commute from Staten Island when Canarsie in my opinion is a better community. There is direct subway and express bus service, there is easy access to the Belt and JFK, there are many nice homes with nice pieces of property, there is a rich history, why flee to toxic Staten Island?? Unfortunately you know the answer and I will say it again, it is a shame!
