I've just realized something that had been on my mind since coming to SubChat and virtually meeting the railfan community.
Being a railfan and a foodie go together! I don't know if one sparks the other. I think one reinforces the other as in:

1. If you are railfanning you are gonna go to many places outside your regular haunts and discover and try different restaurants/food joints.

2. if you are a foodie, you are gonna take the subway a lot and use lines that you usually don't and become curious about the system.

I was always both so one reinforced the other.
When I lived elsewhere, I would just drive to a food place (and often still have to) but in a place with a great subway system, it becomes an excuse to look foward to do both.
