Note that a belief that God wants/needs Satan to exist is not contrary to God being good.

A omnipotent God who willingly allows an evil entity like Satan to exist and do harm is not a good God. It's an evil God.
A good, omnipotent, protective God who answers the prayers of the good people He created would smite him.
