And just so everyone knows, he got this position based on merit, not skin color.Sure, if you want to repeat that to yourself often enough. Each party is quick to take the "race card" or "sex card" out of the other party. For example, after Clarence Thomas played the race card before the Democratic-controlled Senate Judiciary Committee, complaining of an "uppity high tech lynching", Democrats put a woman on the Judiciary Committee, Dianne Feinstein. The RNC is doing a similar thing. They want to attack Obama as vigorously as possible without Obama's surrogates being able to make race card responses. Steele was no success in actual elections. The simple fact is that the RNC was still smarting over the "Barack, the Magic Negro" nonsense (I don't see the big deal about that, myself), and Steele's opponent Katon Dawson was clearly better qualified, given how he has managed the GOP in SC. It's just that Dawson wasn't eligible because the RNC is looking for two things, (1) a black man (to take away the race card), (2) who is not from a so called "red state" (to challenge the view that the GOP is fast becoming a regional party). That said, congratulations to Mr. Steele. He has a lot of work ahead of him trying to rebuild the party, and I hope that he succeeds, I hope that other viable parties spring up, and a hundred flowers bloom, because competition is a great thing in politics. |
