Who do you think should've won?

Of the candidates in the field, Dawson seemed to be ahead of the rest. He is not as well known as Steele, but results count. Steele, after all, couldn't manage his own campaign, while Dawson was actually a successful manager in SC.

The Chairman's job should be to field successful candidates in as many races as possible. The most successful chairman in recent memory for either party was the quite underrated Howard Dean. He was strongly disliked by the DC big bucks fundraising crew (Pelosi, Reid, Kerry, Schumer, etc.), but he nonetheless managed a party that became increasingly competitive all around the country, did the right thing by allowing the Democratic primary race to be a real competition instead of anointing a candidate. If you look at Dawson's record in SC, he strikes me as what the RNC needed to become competitive: someone who can pick winners and get them the resources to succeed.
