The attackers got light sentences because the state of Michigan tried them as juveniles, not because some county sheriff decided that whites aren't protected by hate crime laws.The crimes committed are vicious enough that the attackers could have received very long sentences if they had been tried as adults, even if they weren't tried for any hate crimes. |
