Still Israel is highly competent and adapts quickly. I read in the news that Israel is talking with Hezbollah; there's no official cease-fire but if you ask either side they say something to the effect of "well, if they don't shoot at us we don't shoot at them". Still, this doesn't take the pot off the burner, but Israel keeps the channels open with everyone. As Daniel Levy says "If you're not talking to everyone, you're going to be Chalabied every time." Good advice, a bit late for the U.S. but good to keep in mind nonetheless.Israel reportedly owns between 75 and 200 nuclear warheads, depending on whom you ask, which could be idle rumor or could not. We all know they have the bomb, and numbers aside, even if they only have 15, that's more than anyone else in the region has and it's probably time for them to come out of the nuclear closet. The days of keeping it secret to prevent a local arms race are long over and it would most likely behoove Israel to play that card. And maybe they are, behind closed doors. Let's hope they're getting somewhere. And then there's George Bush, sounding like he's reading off the OTChat/DiaperChat script in front of the Knesset, with McCain echoing on the campaign trail. Such wrongheadedness only points downward for us; no wonder they're smearing Obama so desperately. your pal, Fred |
