Re: People who think that they can write in cursive are usually wrong

Penmanship used to be a graded subject in grammar school in the 50s. I always got crappy grades because I'm left handed, but my handwriting at least has always been legible even though ugly.

It was graded in the 90s too. There's a difference though between ugly and illegible.

I hardly ever see cursive writing any more. I agree that it's gotten worse among those who still do it. Probably because it isn't taught any more.

If it's not taught anymore, then how do people know how to write with it, poorly? I was never taught to write Chinese so I don't.

But writing is much quicker than printing, so if I need to write a note to myself I will probably write it.

This isn't true for everyone. I was taught cursive in school and it always took longer and was more tedious than printing, probably because I learned to print when I was 5 but they only starting teaching cursive in the 3rd grade, so it was "extraneous." I therefore always printed faster than I could write, so when teachers stopped forcing students to write in script in the 6th grade, I stopped and never went back.

Maybe it's only faster for some people because they don't do it well enough to be legible.
