The official parties, those that received more than 50,000 votes in last gubernatorial election, appear in order of their vote total. The 4 official parties in order of their vote totals in 2022 are: Democratic, Republican, Conservative and Working Families. Mamdani is the nominee of the Democratic and Working Families parties. There is a deadline for removal from a ballot. Adams withdrawal came after this deadline. Thus, his name still appears on the ballot. Cadidates who appear as a result of nominating petitions are placed in the order in which such petitions are received. Cuomo dithered, while Sliwa and Adams went right to work to secure a sufficient number of valid signatures on their petitions. There's a limited amount of space on the paper ballot, which has size restrictions so that it can be read by mark sense readers. There are 9 candidates plus a space for a write-in for mayor. They could not all fit on a single line and still be legible. Thus, more than a single line must be used, when the single line threshold is exceeded. What ever the outcome, ballot composition was according to established rules. |
