In other words, if they can't get a job or a raise or rent an apartment it is their fault and to hell with them

Wow. Unashamedly using leftist talking points (particularly nonsequiturs, strawmen and red herrings), aren't you? BS like that has been the excuse that leftist politicians have been using to expand government dependence for decades. Now as for the multifarious homeless that appear on the streets under actual leftist governance, what of them?—to hell with them, is that the case?

If you're claiming that such was the case before the appearance of government-dependence programs, then I'm afraid I'll have to call you a liar. There were multifarious private charities who helped people get jobs and accommodation in existence—what the left-wing politicians hated about them was that they were faith-based. Nowadays, whatever charities still exist are themselves dependent on government largesse—and many of them are complicit in the illegal alien trade now.

This is not what our party was founded on

The GOP was not founded upon increasing dependence on government. That's why it set the slaves free. (Take note of that word.) It was also against substituting the government for the family.

And why are you citing the Morrill Land Grant Act as some kind of socialist program? That was not what it was intended to be at all. Look at what the colleges and universities that were founded under them have become—bastions of antisemitism and anti-Americanism, seething with godless communism.

Oh, and railroads? You're claiming that they were government-built now?? It may have been that due to instability and war, the federal government had to secure the land to build them—but for centuries they were a prime example of the success of private investment.
