I'm sure that it depends on the harbor and the conditions. I've heard ship Captains in LA don't consider the harbor pilot to be necessary. I don't think that they actually "pilot", just provide direction to the ship by radio while onboard.I'd guess that being a river boat captain is considerably harder as conditions change more radically and frequently and they don't make nearly as much. Its a fallacy that workers get paid by how hard they work or even how much they know. |
