What I meant was that he didn't say that slavery was over. What Lincoln said was that any slave from the Confederacy that fought against the Confederacy was free. Any slave that didn't fight (women, children, old people, men that didn't fight, slaves in border states, etc) were still slaves in Lincoln's opinion. |
