I, for one, am not convinced that he existed at all.

I find that to be a weird situation. By 110 CE, you have significant groups of Jews in Judea and environs who believed that this guy Jesus of Nazareth who died about 80 years earlier was the Messiah, and the rest who say nonsense. They were so adamant that they got kicked out of Judaism.

So if he didn't actually exist, what would all the fuss have been about? There should have been people who knew people who had heard his preaching, just like I know people who knew people who fought in the first World War.

And yet, given he was so important to these groups that said he was the Messiah, you'd think those groups would have put together a detailed biography of him, and not just the stories in the Gospels.

And then there are the Acts of the Apostles - a pretty weak body of literature about supposedly very important people who may have only died 50 years earlier.
