I regularly have to service non-Native-English speakers and have to hear and speak usernames or keywords letter-by-letter. If I've got a difficult case understanding or being understood, I'll just say "I'll use the phonetic alphabet, OK?" and I just use the names, no "as in" needed, and I almost never have a problem, sierra papa india delta echo romeo dash papa india golf.More than once I had a caller spell what I think is "V" and I'll say "V as in Victor" and they'll say "No! V as in Vebra." Yes I know that Zulu is the correct word but I don't expect them to know. |
