There was not untainted proof beyond a reasonable doubt of Ayers' guilt of a serious crime. Ditto was true of OJ.

But in each case, it is reasonable to believe that they did in fact commit serious felonies (OJ more serious than Ayers, but nevertheless serious with respect to Ayers too).
