There's no enthusiasm for either side, so an enthusiasm gap is irrelevent. However the state supreme court election was on Democrat primary day, the last one where Bernie still had a chance in hell, so there were plenty of Dems there. Conversely, there was no compelling reason for Republicans to show up.The Dems retook the house in 2018 because Trump was not on the ballot. There was no draw for Trump supporters to go to the polls. Also, it was in the midst of Russiagate and Republicans didn't want to allow a potential puppet of Putin to have unchecked power. As the conspiracy theories were debunked, his support within the party has risen substantially, and the remaining 10% of Republicans who don't support Trump write columns for WaPo or are CNN/MSNBC contributors. |
