Nobody wants to watch a comic who is both politically neutral and jokes about current events. People are way more political now. Not to mention that because TV is more segmented than it was for most of the period 1962-92, there's no longer any benefit to being "mainstream." You're not going to get the majority of the viewers, so why try?Anyway, Fallon does try to be more politically neutral and apolitical than Colbert and Kimmel, so in that way he's Carson's successor. |
