Since when was anything from the Torah fictional? It's all been proven, even just about all of the towns have been found. Most of it is fictional. The fact that real towns are used is meaningless. Lots of fiction takes place in real places: The fact that Spider-Man is from Queens doesn't mean that either Spider-Man is real or Queens is fictional. The real place is widely believed to be where the Dome of the Rock is now. Of course, if you have some real, non-scriptural source as to the exact location of the Holy of Holies I'll pay attention. Unfortunately it's not possible to do archaeology there because God-forbid* the "Palestinians" might have to come up with new lies to explain away the thousands of years of Jewish presence. *Not saying this ironically. That physical spot, which Abraham saw through to Jacob...well are you calling people and planet Earth fiction now? I am calling Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob fictional. It was obviously written to explain the importance of the existing Temple site, in case some people might have wanted to rebuild elsewhere (or in Shchem like a Samaritan). |
