It isn’t whataboutism, but it is also not an apt comparison. There were a lot of failures in the system that caused the accidental takedown of Iran Air 655 and the technology has improved since then. Moreover, Iran Air 655 was at a much higher altitude than this flight. At less than 5000’ AGL the people on the ground should be able to tell the difference between a twin engine jet and a 4 engine 707 derivative. |
