Except for a comment by Bernie Sanders, no one wants to enfranchise felons who are still in jail.False. Felons regularly vote from jail in Maine and Vermont. But the whole recent move to dilute felony being a permanent disqualification from voting is misguided. Perhaps the closest that any state has come to a sensible solution is Alabama, which has a list of felonies involving moral turpitude. But it would really uphold legal norms much better to reclassify felonies that do not involve moral turpitude as misdemeanors. |
