I'm inferring you are Ashkenazi. Your ancestors just 2000 years ago were a lot darker skinned (looking pretty much like current day Arabs). But the better part of 2000 years of living in more northern places has selected for lighter skin.

And who ever the biblical Adam was, he might have looked like an Arab too, 6000 years ago. But his ancestors came from central Africa.
