Silicon Valley is the main reason San Francisco & Oakland didn't join Detroit and the like. While the climate is great, the sheer volume of aggressive homeless along with high rents due to archaic building codes would drive anyone sane out of the city, were it not for seven figure jobs a few miles to the south... and it's a weird nexus of both shitty public transit *and* roads, a difficult feat to accomplish.I'm betting that once high speed rail between LA and SF (with a stop in the Valley) is a reality, Los Angeles becomes the city everyone wants to live in. Democrats do not have a lock on the city so they can't fuck it up too badly or they get the boot. San Diego is awesome, and sure enough when checking it out it leans Republican as well. |
