Do you think that an "All in the Family" or "Sanford & Son" would play to todays folks? I think not. We've forgotten how to laugh. I'm an Irish-American. The Irish were victims of fierce discrimination back when we fled Ireland during the famine, mostly because it was a WASP/Protestant country we came to back in the 1800's.They thought of us as diseased hooligans with pagan like religeous rituals that were to be avoided. Point being, Another St.Paddys day came & gone with its traditional showing of "The Quiet Man". That movie sends up every Irish stereotype that ever was. Does the Irish-American community jump up & down, screaming like little pussys demanding that the movie get pulled? Straight answer, no. They'd want it repeated! We've learned to laugh at ourselves. No big deal. Its a shame that other ethnic groups forgot how to laugh at themselves. |
