began listening to rock'n'roll/doo-wop when I was eight or nine ('58 or '59) - as much as I could catch, on Alan Freed's or Dick Clark's late afernoon shows. I wasn't aware of WMGM etc. until a couple of years later, so wasn't aware of the "complete picture of doo-wop" As a kid, llked the fast songs (Cadillacs, Marcels), didn't like the slow romantic ballads - "too young to know" to quote Sam Cooke.*

Also, being eight or nine, didn't have my own independent spending money for 45s, too young for school dances (didn't have them yet) and of course dating (heh,heh)

*a few years back, bought Sam Cooke at the Harlem Square club. Great album!!!!!!!!!
