The US buying Chinese tanks sounds like bullshit.The Army actually complains that Congress makes them buy more Abrams tanks than they need. If they have more American-made tanks than they need, why the fuck are they importing tanks? Assuming, arguendo, that the United States defense industry is incapable of meeting the United States' defense needs: The government proposes contracts that have mandatory American manufacture clauses and there are no companies capable of bidding, then the federal government can simply build and subsidize the appropriate factories outright. Even that is unlikely, as if it were really that hard to find a qualified contractor, the price of the proposal would go up until investors are willing to make the appropriate investments. Proposed weapons and related systems are planned YEARS in advance. If Congress wouldn't want to invest in defense to such an extent, then well, what's the problem? The people would have spoken. |
