Uranium mines that create vast amounts of pollution

Then import it.
Import lots of it so that we can build a strategic reserve of it for both our energy and national defense needs.

Extensive fish kills from sending excessively warm water back into the water source.

That's why people who otherwise support nuclear power don't want plants in their own area.

Careless implementation that allows releases of radioactivity from the power plant, as in TMI, Chernobyl, and Fukushima.

Strong regulatory regimes would assure that proper implementation would be strict.

One intrinsic non-environmental problem is that when you address all of these items properly, nuclear power isn't cheap any more.

I agree. Thanks to fracking, a glut of cheap and plentiful natural gas has made old arguments in favor of nuclear power somewhat quaint.
