Nixon hands the chance to do exactly that when he took over a torn country from years riots, war, and college upheavals. He could have been a great president but his suspicions, hatreds, and bunker mentality destroyed him. Sad, too, because he solved the Berlin problem with the Berlin Accord in 1971, the ABM Treaty with the Soviet Union in 1972 and the opening of relations with China the same year. He also got passed a revenue sharing program to send federal money back to the states, but all this came to naught because of a very weird and suspicious personality. Talk about destroying yourself. |
