When an agent of the state imposes her religious beliefs on the people, that is called theocracy. We fought the Revolution to get away from being governed by a theocratic monarchy, among other things.Elected officials may NOT impose any religious test as a condition of performing their sworn duties. When such an official specifically refuses to do her job because of a court ruling clarifying the right of gay and lesbian Americans to marry, that's homophobia, no matter how she tries to cloak it in the veil of religious fervor. It's also patently illegal. |
