Nothing in his post contradicts mine. Even the part that says "Although in theory Texas could still be divided into multiple states, any possibility of carving additional states from Texas ended when the Civil War settled the question of slavery once and for all.”

That part does not at all imply that such right is inherent in Texas. Any state could be split into multiple states with the approval of Congress. The question is whether Texas has the right to do so without any further Congressional approval and that is not the case.

Note that as of 1912, thanks to the Texas Cession, the land formerly recognized as being part of Texas at its admission in 1845 does form parts of five states: The extant State of Texas and parts of New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma and Wyoming. That has nothing to do with it though, as all of those states were formed from federal territories established after Texas agreed to cede land in exchange for federal bonds.
