Holy cow!! That is a very big pet peeve of mine. Coming from work I always have to stop at the intersection of East Shore Road and Northern Blvd in Great Neck and 99% of the people do just that. Some won't even enter the intersection when the traffic clears. I always say to myself "why is he/she stopping at a green light and go around them on their right. Then they'll either honk or make a face like I'm in the wrong.
I think it's because those drivers who are used to turning lanes with the yellow and red arrow assume that every intersection is like that even if the green arrow just disappears and they have a green light.
