Going east on Union Tpke approaching New Hyde Park Road, the left lane gives the option to go straight or turn left, but the problem is there's a red light, green left arrow phase. If the first car is going straight he is in the correct lane but holding up everyone behind who desperately needs that turn. And it isn't totally obvious, unless you know the intersection, that there's a green arrow coming (Nassau signal cycles can be quite complicated and vary based on traffic and time of day). Now of course I know better but there was nothing I can do about the first time.
