There are problems as well among Jews. The Synagogue is no longer the central hub of Jewish life. Many are going under because people stay until he Bar or Bat Mitzvah of their youngest child then drop out. Intermarriage does not help eitherYes, I noticed that. There was an abandoned synagogue in Richmond Hill that I passed many times and one day it was just demolished. The one I went to for a Bar-Mitzvah on Myrtle Ave @ Woodhaven Blvd is barely hanging on. I think for the most part, Jews are more likely to be single or not have big families and that's why you've lost some congregations. But they're not leaving for other branches, like Catholics becoming Jehovah's Witness or Pentecostal. Anti-semites think, "The Jews stick together" but in reality, Jews as a whole are very likely to intermarry. |
