Not to mention the 2 different games are against teams that finished the same place in the division as you. Assuming that a division is not like the NFC South where the division winner seems to rotate every year you do not have one team playing the top two teams from a division as their different opponent and the other playing the bottom two teams from the year before. For example, next year there is a big difference between playing Indy/Houston versus Jacksonville/Tennessee. Another plus to playing intra-divisional match-ups twice is that you play everyone once at home and once on the road so you do not have a situation where one of the two teams fighting for one spot got 2 at home and the other only 1 |
